Robert "Bob" Hulland

15th January 2023

It is with great regret to inform you that our friend and fellow bandsman Bob Hulland, sadly passed away on Monday 9th January 2023 following complications after a fall.

A superb Tenor Sax player who will be truly missed by us all, not only for his sublime playing but also his great personality and his love of the Big Band sound.

Our January monthly concert (18th) will include many of his favourites.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to all his family and friends at this very sad time. RIP Bob.

Bob's funeral will take place at Bretby Crematorium on Tuesday 31st January at 9.45am in the Carnarvon Chapel.

A reception will be held at the Henhurst District & Social Club afterwards and the family welcome those that knew Bob to join us.

We're honoured to be able to play some of his favourites on the day.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Burton Big Band

December 2020

It has been a tough year and the band has really missed playing and meeting with our friends at our concerts. With renewed hope for 2021 we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to being reunited soon.

To bring some festive cheer some of the members of the band have put together our first ever virtual recording, our thanks to everyone who contributed and to David Cousins for bringing everyone together. See you next year!

Stella Reynolds

August 2020

It is with great sadness to hear that Stella, wife of our late lead alto saxophone player Tony Reynolds, sadly passed away on Wednesday 29th July 2020.

Stella Reynolds Obituary

Stella was married to Tony for 69 years and was a regular supporter of the band. She will be greatly missed by us all and indeed the many friends she made during her life.

Tony passed away in November 2019 but he had mentioned shortly before then that one number he would love to record on our next CD was a great alto saxophone feature called “When Sunny Gets Blue”, and to do it especially for Stella.  Sadly, we never had time to do this for him but we have now found a live concert recording of Tony playing it back in 2006. We wanted to post it for others to be able to hear his beautiful sound and for it to be our special tribute to Stella as Tony always wanted.

Stella's funeral will be held at Bretby Crematorium at the Carnarvon Chapel at 11:15 on Friday 14th August and because of limitations on numbers allowed to attend it will be live streamed as a webcast here.

If you would like to virtually attend through this webcast then please fill in the contact form or email info@burtonbigband.co.uk and we will send you the login details.

Our thoughts are with Martin, Keith and all the family at this sad time and we hope all BBB supporters join with us in sending our sincere condolences to them.

Planning to Play Again

The band are planning a safe return to the Henhurst Club as soon as possible and we will post updates here as and when government advice changes.
